When they're not taking the kids at Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club to the beach to catch some waves, the good people over at Matix Clothing invite the kids over to the HQ to skate their ramp as part of their ongoing project, The Compton Surf Club. Check out the excerpt below from the video 'Ramp Day' to get a better idea of what the Compton Surf Club is all about. And then check out the actual video to get a visual of what I'm talking about. And then check out the link to their webstore at the bottom of the page so you can get some cool Compton Surf Club gear and help support the project. And then get off the internet for a while and go do something.

"When Matix moved to the Compton neighborhood we were looking at ways to embrace and simultaneously expose the youth to the things that inspired us to build our lifestyles and brands – surfing, skateboarding, art and snowboarding.

Learning new skills, building self-esteem and keeping at risk youth off the streets of our local Compton neighborhoods through our boardsports and street culture are the pillars of the Matix Compton Surf Club.

The unique challenge of standing up on a wave, riding atop a skateboard, or turning down a mountain under your own balance and power while your best friends are right there cheering you on is an experience unique to board sports and our culture. Having conquered something extreme that their friends have never tried provides these kids a platform to stand up on and be proud.

For this project we have chosen to work with Roy W. Roberts, II Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club. A portion of proceeds from every Compton Surf item will help support our ongoing volunteer efforts with the Club."
